RELEASE DATE: 1/29/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Uhrich Nears Milestone As Mansfield Falls 78-57 to Le Moyne Mansfield -- The Mountaineers fell 78-57 to the Le Moyne College Dolphins Sunday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium. Junior standout Jessica Uhrich recorded six rebounds in the game, leaving her one shy of becoming the eighth player in school history to reach 500 career rebounds. Mansfield won the initial tip-off but Le Moyne stole the ball and scored the first points of the contest. Turnovers became crucial to the Mounties who turned the ball over three times in their first six possessions. Le Moyne capitalized on Mansfield's turnovers to build an 11-2 lead early in the first half. With just over 13 minutes to play in the first half, the Dolphins had built a 14 point lead at 22-8. Mansfield would fight back behind key 3-point baskets from Tiffany Taylor, Brittany Reed, and Mallory Hafer to cut the lead to only four points at 25-21 with 10 minutes to play in the half. The cold shooting drought that hit Mansfield in each of their last two contests came back at the end of the half as the Mounties would only score eight points in the final 10:00 of the first half. Cold shooting was not a problem for Le Moyne as they rebuilt their lead to as much as 17 points, including 16 points off turnovers. Mansfield trailed 44-29 at the half. The Dolphins returned to start the second half with an 8-0 run to go up 52-29. Another 3-pointer from freshman Mallory Hafer game Mansfield their first points of the half. The Mounties struggled to get things going on the offensive side of the ball scoring only seven points in the first 10:00 of the second half. Le Moyne relied on impressive 3-point shooting from their guards to pull away by as much as 30 points. Mansfield's scoring drought ended as the Mounties scored 21 points over the final 10:00 of play, but could not stop Le Moyne from answering back. Mansfield failed to shoot above their season average for the third straight game shooting 38.6% from the field, but the Mounties shot 43.8% from the 3-point arc as a team. Mansfield was led by three players in double figures including team-high scorer Tiffany Taylor who recorded 12 points. Taylor was 4-for-6 from the field while shooting 2-for-2 from the 3-point arc and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe as well.
