FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Cold Shooting Mounties Fall 53-50 at Bloomsburg – Tagliaferri With Game High 14 Points

Bloomsburg – Alison Tagliaferri scored a game best 14 points, but Mansfield would shot a season low 27% from the floor in a disappointing 53-50 setback to Bloomsburg in a PSAC East matchup at Nelson Fieldhouse Wednesday evening.

Mansfield’s cold shooting and Bloomsburg’s turnovers were the most consistent part of the game. The Mountaineers managed to hit just 7-of-30 attempts from the floor in the first half, trailing by as much as 26-20 at the 3:35 mark before closing the gap to 26-24 at halftime.

The Mountaineers would go on a 11-2 run over the first six minutes of the second half taking a 35-28 lead on a pain of free throw Tiffany Taylor at the 14:12 mark.

Bloomsburg would answer with an 18-5 run over the next 10 minutes taking a 48-40 advantage on a layup by Colleen Kegerreis with 4:58 remaining.

Mansfield made a final run closing to 51-50 on a 3-pointer by Alicia Espigh with just :13 seconds remaining and got off two 3-pointers in the last six seconds but could not find the basket.

The Mountaineers top three season scorers of Tagliaferri, Jessica Uhrich and Espigh connected on just 23% of their attempts. Mansfield was out rebounded 47-33 but forced 20 Bloomsburg turnovers to Mansfield’s 10.

Tagliaferri added eight rebounds to her game high 14 points with freshman Courtney Brooks scoring a season high 10 points.

Jamie Kauczka, who scored her 1,000 career point late in the game, had a double-double for Bloomsburg with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kait Urban added 10 points.

Mansfield suffered its first PSAC East (2-1) loss of the season falling out of first place after Kutztown recorded a 69-58 win over West Chester.

The Mountaineers will host Kutztown on Saturday at Decker Gymnasium.
