FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS WEST CHESTER TO A 70-52 WIN OVER MANSFIELD – ESPIGH SCORES SEASON HIGH 18

MANSFIELD- West Chester went on a 15-1 run midway through  in the second half to post a 70-52 win over Mansfield University in a PSAC East contest  at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. 

The Mountaineers stuck with West Chester early, trailing 34-32 at the half behind Alicia Espigh’s 12 points.  Mansfield shot 54.5% from the field and 60.0% from the 3-point line during the first half of play.  

With the Mountaineers trailing 43-39 five minutes into the second half, West Chester capitalized on six straight Mansfield turnovers over a span of four minutes to expand the lead to an insurmountable 53-39 advantage with 11:59 to go. 

Mansfield shot just 25% from the floor in the second half, while West Chester’s defense forced 27 Mansfield turnovers in the game. 

Espigh had a season high 18 points, all coming off six 3-pointers.  Jessica Uhrich added 12 points and three steals, while Laura Scordino added eight points and six assists. 

Kiesha Mack led West Chester with 19 points.

Mansfield will take on PSAC rival Bloomsburg University at home on Wednesday January 26^th at 5:30 p.m.
