RELEASE DATE: 1/08/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FREE THROWS DOOM MOUNTIES IN 64-54 SETBACK AT IUP – TAGLIAFERRI MOVES UP TO SEVENTH IN ALL-TIME SCORING INDIANA, PA – Jessica Uhrich led three Mountaineers in double figures with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome an IUP free throw advantage as Mansfield fell 64-54 in a PSAC crossover contest Saturday afternoon at Memorial Field House. Mansfield led for most of the first ten minutes but with the scored tied at 18-18 at the 10:50 mark, the Mountaineers went scoreless over the next six minutes allowing IUP build a 26-21 lead advantage and took that five point lead into halftime at 31-26. The Mounties again struggled offensively coming out of intermission with IUP going on a 16-6 run over the first seven minutes of the second half. Mansfield managed to pull to 56-48 with 1:36 to play but could pull no closer. The Mountaineers committed a season high 27 turnovers, but also forced 22 IUP turnovers. In a game that was otherwise fairly statistically even, IUP connected on 18-of-27 free throws to Mansfield’s 8-of-16. Uhrich added eight rebounds to her 16 points while Stephanie Rieser just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Alison Tagliaferri added 13 points. Tagliaferri moved post Beth Guiliani (1991-94) into seventh place on the career scoring list with 1,096 points. The Mountaineers travel to Lock Haven tomorrow for a 1 p.m. tip-off.
