FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SENIORS SHINE ON MOUNTIES SENIOR DAY--DEFEATING CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY 81-72

MANSFIELD - Seniors Laura Scordino and Stephanie Rieser shone on Senior Day with Scordino scoring a game high 21 points and Reiser adding a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mansfield to a 81-72 season ending victory over Cheyney Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.

Cheyney took an early 16-10 after a 12-3 run five minutes into the game.  The Mountaineers would come right back with a 8-2 run of their won tying the scored 18-18 on a lay-up by Alison Tagliaferri with 10:31 left in the half. 

Mansfield would take as much as a four point lead for the remainder of the half until rallied to send the game into a 38-38 tie at intermission. 

Mansfield immediately regained the lead in the second half and never trailed again in the game. Scordino scored six points in the first two minutes of the second half to bring the Mounties lead to 46-38.  Mansfield’s largest lead of ten would come with 14:40 left to play on a made lay-up by Tiffany Taylor.

But Cheyney would chip away at the lead and tied the game at 63-63 with 7:23 left to play.

Mansfield would retake the lead behind Jessica Uhrich who scored eight of her 19 points over the final seven minutes of the game. MU hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final minute of the game to preserve the win.

The Mountaineers had four players in double figures. Scordino added eight assists and tied her career high with 21 points. Jessica Uhrich scored 19 points, with Tagliaferri joining Rieser in recording a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Rieser ends her career with 1,024 points.

Fanta Sissoko led the way for Cheyney with 15 points and 15 rebounds. 

Mansfield ends the season with a 9-16 overall mark and finished fifth in the PSAC with a 4-8 record.
