FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WOMEN FALL TO ALDERSON-BROADDUS 71-67 – LATE RALLY SINKS MOUNTIES IN SEASON OPENER

ELKINS, WV – Stephanie Rieser scored a game high 20 points, but it would not be enough as Alderson-Broaddus College rallied late in the game to pull out a 71-67 win over Mansfield in the opening game of the Davis & Elkins Classic Friday night.

The Mountaineer led throughout most of the game building, a 33-28 halftime advantage and maintaining the lead until the last five minutes of the game.

Mansfield trailed by three points with 24 seconds but could not hit a tying shot.

The Mountaineers held an advantage in shooting percentage (46.3%-39.4%) but were out rebounded 52-39. Alderson-Broaddus got 34 points off the bench to the Mountaineers 22.

Rieser connected on 8-of-13 attempts from the field while Alison Tagliaferri scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds in just 25 minutes of play. Laura Scordino had a strong performance in her first game since transferring from Division I Binghamton with 10 points and four assists.

Deshunna Ricks came off the bench to lead Alderson-Broaddus with 12 points.

The Mountaineers will play host Davis & Elkins tomorrow.
