FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: TIFFANY TAYLOR HITS LAY-UP WITH :28 SECONDS LEFT IN THE GAME TO GIVE MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY A 60-57 WIN OVER SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY

MANSFIELD-Tiffany Taylor (Media, PA/Strath Haven) hit a lay-up with :28 seconds left in the game and Laura Scordino (Apalachin/ NY/Vestal) connected on two free-throws with 12.9 seconds remaining in the game to lift Mansfield to a 60-57 win over Slippery Rock University in a PSAC crossover contest at Decker Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. 

“Everybody really made a contribution in the last minutes of the game,” said head coach Ruth Hermansen. “Tiff Taylor is the smallest player on the court and she pulls down a critical rebounds and puts it back for her only two points of the game. That’s finding a way to win and that’s what is team did today.”

Both teams struggled offensively to start the game, with neither team scoring a field goal until Slippery Rock scored with 12:35 left in the first half.  Despite their first half struggles, Mansfield had four players score in double figures. 

Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) led the Mountaineers with 15 points, and moved into 9th place on the all-time leading scoring list with 1,026 points.  Alicia Espigh (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Laura Scordino had 13 points, apiece and Stephanie Rieser (Barnegat, NJ /Southern Regional) had 12 points.  Jessica Uhrich (Palmyra, PA / Palmyra) had a career high 16 rebuonds for Mansfield. 

Slippery Rock was led by Erin Frankovich with 17 points. 

Mansfield University is now 4-2 on the season and will host Salem International on December 11th for a 1:00 p.m. game time.
