FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: JESSICA UHRICH’S DOUBLE-DOUBLE TOPS FOUR MOUNTAINEERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES TO LEAD MANSFIELD TO A 79-69 WIN OVER SALEM INTERNATIONAL

MANSFIELD- Jessica Uhrich ( Palmyra , PA / Palmyra ) recorded a double-double and three other Mountaineers scored in double-figures to lead Mansfield University to a key 79-69 win over Salem International at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

"This was an important win for us," said head coach Ruth Hermansen. "Salem is a very athletic team and had already beaten two PSAC teams this season so it was a good judge of were we are at this point in the year."

The Mountaineers got off to a slow start, missing their first seven shots and trailing 8-0 in the first few minutes of the game. A three-pointer by Alicia Espigh (Lewistown/Lewistown) and a jumper by Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) got the Mountaineers back into the game, taking a 9-8 lead with 12:00 left in the first half. Mansfield would extend its lead, behind Uhrich and Espigh who scored 10 first half points, to 35-24 at intermission.

The Mountaineers would increase their lead to 70-49 with 7:41 to play before Salem rallied to pull to 74-67 with 47 left in the game.
