RELEASE DATE: 2/23/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTAINEERS PLAYOFF HOPES END IN A 72-63 LOSS TO PSAC EAST RIVAL EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY EAST STROUDSBURG- The Mansfield University’s women’s basketball playoff hopes ended with a 72-63 loss to PSAC East rival East Stroudsburg University at Koehler Fieldhouse Wednesday evening. Although the Mountaineers out-rebounded the Warriors 29-18 in the first half, Mansfield managed to shoot just 24% from the floor. The Warriors controlled play from the start, never trailing during the game taking a 29-22 lead into intermission. Mansfield cut the lead to four just 48 seconds into the second half on a 3-pointer by Scordino. ESU would go on a 9-2 run to bring the score to 40-29 with 14:57 left to play. After a Mansfield time-out, the Warriors would take their largest lead of the night 62-46 with 4:03 left to play. The Mountaineers had three players in double figures in the loss. Laura Scordino led the way with a career high 21 points; including five 3-pointers, Jessica Uhrich recorded a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Alison Tagliaferri had 18 points and 8 rebounds. Stephanie Rieser became the 10th leading scorer in school history, surpassing Jessica Pfeiffer’s (2000-2004) 1,011 career points. Rieser increased her total to 1,013 career points. Nikki Cox led East Stroudsburg with 21 points. Mansfield University will finish their season with their Senior Day at home against Cheyney University Saturday February 26th at 1:00 p.m.
