FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: RIESER SCORES 27 TO LEAD MANSFIELD TO 90-66 WIN OVER DAVIS & ELKINS -- TIES SCHOOL RECORD WITH SEVEN 3-POINTERS

ELKINS, WV – Senior Stephanie Rieser (Barnegat,NJ/Southern Regional) scored a career high 27 points and Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) added 22 points to lead Mansfield to a 90-66 win over Davis & Elkins College in the Davis & Elkins Classic at Memorial Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

“It was a night and day difference in the way we play today in comparison to yesterday,” said head coach Ruth Hermansen. “Yesterday’s loss was just disappointing to all of us and the team took it to heart. We played very well defensively and just came out like we had something to prove to ourselves.”

The Mountaineers got off to a torrid start, hitting 60.7% (17-28) of their shots in the first half to build a 55-29 advantage at intermission.

Rieser, who tied her previous high scoring performance with 20 points in yesterday’s opening game, also tied the school record by hitting seven 3-pointers (Sarah Barr, 1996). She connected on 10-of-17 from the floor including 7-of-9 from beyond the arch while dishing out six assists.

“I would have to say that was the best game Stephanie played in her pretty impressive career,” Henderson said. “Not because she scored a career best 27 points, but more so because she played so unselfishly today. She was just awesome.”

Four of the Mountaineers five starters scored in double figures with Tagliaferri connecting on 9-of-11 shots from the field and pulling down six rebounds in 23 minutes. Laura Scordino (Apalachin,NY/Vestal) and Jess Uhrich (Palmyra/Palmyra) each had 11 points with Scordino dishing out five assists and Uhrich pulling down a game high eight rebounds.

Lauren Davis led for players in double figures with 12 points for Davis & Elkins (1-1).

The Mountaineers improve to 1-1 on the season and will host Houghton College on Tuesday night.
