FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALISON TAGLIAFERRI SCORES A GAME HIGH 22 POINTS IN 90-63 LOSS TO CLARION UNIVERSITY

MANSFIELD- Alison Tagliaferri scored a game high 22 points, but it would not be enough as Mansfield University women’s basketball suffered a 90-63 loss to Clarion University in a PSAC crossover game at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Mountaineers kept the game close through much of the first half behind 16 points by Tagliaferri trailing 36-27 at intermission.

In the second half, the Mountaineers were unable to stop Clarion’s conference best offense with the Golden Eagles going on a 26-11 run over the first six minutes of the second half to take an insurmountable 51-31 lead.

Freshman Alicia Espigh scored a season high 18 points for Mansfield, while sophomore Jessica Uhrich added 11 points.

Tagliaferri’s 22 points now moves her into 5th place on the all-time leading scoring list with 1,135 points above Glenda Oswald, who scored 1,118 points from 1989-1992.

Heather Cigich had 19 points for Clarion, while Shay Godwin had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mountaineers will begin their PSAC East Schedule at Millersville University on Wednesday, January 19th, at 6:00 p.m.
