FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE WOMEN DEFEAT CHEYNEY UNIVERSITY 71-59 IN A KEY PSAC EAST MATCHUP- JESSICA UHRICH RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE

CHEYNEY- Jessica Uhrich scored 15 of her game high 21 points in the second half to lead the Mansfield University women’s basketball team to a come-from-behind 71-59 victory over Cheyney University in a key PSAC East contest Saturday afternoon at Cope Hall. 

The first and second half were like night and day for the Mountaineers who shot just 33.3% from the floor in the first half in trailing 35-29 at intermission. In the second half, Mansfield shot 72.7% (16-22) outscoring Cheyney 42-24.

The Mounties were a team with a mission in the second half.  After starting the half with a 3-pointer by Laura Scordino, Uhrich would score 11 straight points to help Mansfield take a 41-39 lead with 15:15 left in the game.  Mansfield never trailed again. 

Alison Tagliaferri and Scordino sealed the game for Mansfield shooting perfect from the free throw line over the final minute of the game, stretching the lead to 12 points when time expired. 

Uhrich may have been the Mountaineers scoring spark, but Tagliaferri took advantage of the defensive pressure under the basket, dishing out five assists in the second half.  She had a complete game with 18 points and six rebounds, along with a season high six assists and two steals.

Stephanie Rieser scored 13 points, to bring her within 42 points of the 1,000 point mark.  Scordino scored 11 points and had three assists. 

Ngozi Utti led Cheyney University with 12 points. 

Mansfield University is tied for 4^th place in the PSAC East at the end of the first half of the season and will take on PSAC rival Millersville University Wednesday February 9^th at 5:30 p.m. at Decker Gymnasium.
