The workshop will be presented in conjunction with the Yogi Berra Sports Museum, a nonprofit sports educational organization on the campus of Montclair State. Entitled “Getting the most out of the athletic experience”, the presentation features Dr. Rob Gilbert, a professor of Sports Psychology and John McCarthy, an award-winning teach and coach of several youth sports. Both are associated with the Yogi Berra Sports Museum. The program covers sportsmanship, self-discipline, respect for the opponent, teamwork, and constructive motivation and mentoring. It also addresses the appropriate roles of parents, coaches, and athletes in youth sports. “There’s a crisis facing youth sports,” said Laurie Zaparzynski, Mansfield University head trainer and event organizer. “Violence towards coaches, other parents, and officials is at an all-time high. That why we consider this an important workshop and why it’s free. We want everyone involved in youth sports to attend.” The program is open to any player, parent, coach or administrator in the Twin Tiers.
