RELEASE DATE: 1/24/2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- LADY MOUNTIES SWIMMING TEAM DEFEATS WELLS COLLEGE 67-28; WINS EVERY OPEN EVENT AURORA, NY- Mansfield’s lady Mounties swimmers improve upon their season by defeating Wells College by a score of 67-28, Saturday afternoon in Aurora, NY. The Mounties posted first place finishes in every individual event as well as the 800 Free Style Relay. Senior Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) led the way, posting two first place finishes for the Mounties. Houck finished with a winning time of 1:02.42 in the 100 Freestyle, and added another victory in the 200 Free with a time of 2:15.85. Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad/Yugoslavia) and Daniella Borreilli (Vestal, NY) also each added two first place finishes of their own. Popovic posted a time of 5:14.91 to win the 400 IM, and picked up another victory in the 500 Freestyle with a winning time of 5:43.38.Borreilli picked up her two victories with first place finishes in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 1:07.93, and in the 50 Free, posting a time of :27.17. Houck, Popovic, Borreilli, and freshman Abbe Tipton (Elmira, NY) combined to win the 800 Freestyle Relay. Tipton also posted a winning time of 1:07.52 in the 100 Back.Freshman Rene Allington (Elmira, NY) captured her first, first place finish as a collegiate athlete by posting a 1:26.13 in the 100 Breast.Fellow freshman Eileen Spellman (Wilkes Barre) took first in the 1,000 Free with a time of 12:10.11. The Mounties will be back in action next Saturday, January, 31.When they host the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University at 1 p.m. at Decker Pool.
