FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD SWIMMING FALLS SHORT TO MILLERSVILLE 111-93

MANSFIELD- Two first place finishes by sophomore Andrea Popovic (Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) were not enough for Mansfield University, as they fell short to Millersville University, 111-93 Saturday afternoon at the pool at Decker Gymnasium.

Popovic finished first in the 1000 yard freestyle event with a time of 11:48.12 as well as finishing first in the 500 yard freestyle event with a time of 5:44.78.

Mansfield pulled within two points (85-83) of Millersville after the 500 yard freestyle event with the Mountaineers sweeping the top three finishes. Popovic led the way, followed by freshman Eileen Spellman (Wilkes-Barre), who finished with a time of 5:56.70 and sophomore Charity Learn (Troy) following in next with a time of 5:59.23.

Spellman and Learn finished second and third respectively in the 1000 yard freestyle event as well.

Freshman Daniella Borrelli (Vestal) had another strong performance as she finished first in the 50 yard freestyle event and had a second place finish in the 100 yard butterfly event with a time of 1:06.86.

In the 200 yard freestyle event, senior Katie Houck (Orefield/Parkland) finished second with a time of 2:15.14.  Freshman Abbe Tipton (Elmira) finished first in the 100 yard backstroke event with a time of 1:05.77.

The Mountaineers next meet is 11 a.m. Saturday at Wells College.
