RELEASE DATE: 11/14/09 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer Swimmers Fall to East Stroudsburg; ESU Swimmer Breaks Pool Record MANSFIELD – The women’s swim team fell short of a home victory in the first home meet of the 2009-10 season against the Warriors of East Stroudsburg University 151-98. East Stroudsburg’s Christine Swiker broke the pool record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:51.70. Mansfield’s Megan Smickley had a close first place finish in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 12:03.00 as she beat out East Stroudsburg’s Tami Bereznay by .01. Taylor Zilinek finished first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:07.00 and in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:21.29. Christine Gillies also took a first place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 59.37 followed by teammate, Emily Staib with a time of 1:00.68. Gillies and Lindsey Gregg took second and third places in the 200 yard freestyle with times of 2:08.15 and 2:12.02. Smickley and Gregg also finish in second and third places in the 200 yard butterfly with times of 2:31.39 and 2:31.57. Smickley also took another second place in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 5:14.27 followed by Zilinek with a time of 5:15.34. The Mountaineer 400 yard freestyle relay team of Gillies, Sam Contino, Staib and Smickley finished first with a time of 4:06.97 while the 400 yard medley relay team of Zilinek, Liz Stanton, Gregg and Staib finished second with a time of 4:36.57.
