RELEASE DATE: 1/13/07 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tipton Dual Winner – Mounties Swimmers Drop 146-87 Decision at ESU EAST STROUDSBURG – Abbe Tipton won two events with Tamar Maloney, and Tricia Learn each winning once would not be enough as Mansfield dropped a 146-87 decision at East Stroudsburg Saturday afternoon. Tipton won the 100 backstroke beating out East Stroudsburg’s Christine Swiker by more than a second with a time of 1:04.05 and repeated the first-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:20.83. Tipton, a senior, also swam the opening leg of Mountaineers second place 200 medley relay team and finished third n the 200 IM (2:28.89). Sophomore Tricia Learn won the 500 freestyle by nine seconds over the next swimmer finishing with a time of 2:14.43 and was second in the 200 freestyle (2:04.85) and swam the anchor leg of the second place 200 free relay team (1:52.76). Freshman Tamar Maloney edged Learn for first place in the 200 free with a PSAC qualifying time of 2:03.48 and finished second in the 50 free (26.69) and the 200 IM (2:28.89). Maureen Maikner was second in both the 100 breaststroke (1:16.48) and the 100 butterfly (1:05.48) and swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay. Mary Tucker was second in the 1000 free (12:07.58) and swam the second leg of the 200 free relay. Sarah Koontz was third in the 100 free (1:04.18), fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.51) and swam the opening leg of the 200 free relay. Freshman Amanda Oechler finshed third in the 200 breaststroke (2:45.82) and the 100 butterfly (1:06.70) while also swimming the third leg of the 200 free relay. Mansfield will host Wells and Pitt-Bradford this coming Saturday starting at noon in Decker Pool. Seniors Daniella Borrelli and Abbe Tipton will be honored before the meet.
