MILLERSVILLE – Abbe Tipton, Amanda Oechler and Tamar Maloney each won an event but it wouldn’t be enough as Mansfield fell to Millersville 126-70 in PSAC women’s swimming Sunday.

Tipton continued her strong early season showing winning the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.31. Her finish was just .2 seconds off her career best and ranks her among the conference leaders.

Freshmen Amanda Oechler and Tamar Maloney each picked up wins with Oechler capturing the 200 free and Maloney the 100 free.

Oechler’s winning time was a personal best and more than 5 seconds faster than the next swimmer while Maloney’s 56.69 mark in the 100 free was just ½ second off qualifying for the PSAC Championship.

Mary Tucker, who recorded a personal best in the 500 free against Bloomsburg the day before, swam almost three seconds faster against Millersville (5:45.10) to finish third.

Tucker also finished second in the 200 free (2:11.32) with Oechler coming in second I the 100 breaststroke (1:14.56). Maloney was third in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:23.68. Samantha Kutskel had a personal best in the 200 IM (2:48.79).

Tricia Learn, who ran in the PSAC Cross Country Championship at Bloomsburg the day before, was third in the 1000 free (12:03.56) and fourth in the 500 free (5:52.30).

Maureen Maikner took third in the 100 fly (1:06.19) while Daniella Borrelli was fourth in the 50 free (27.81) and Sarah Koontz fifth in the 100 breaststroke

The team of Maloney, Borrelli, Learn and Tipton was first in the 200 free relay (1:48.17).

The Mountaineers will swim at home for the first time this season when they host Lock Haven at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
