FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer Swimmers Dominate Wells College -- Win Every Event

The Mansfield University Swim team traveled to Wells College this past weekend and came home with an impressive 59-33 victory. More impressively than the overall victory was that the Mountaineer women earned a victory in each individual and relay even throughout the day.

Starting the day out right for the Mounties was the 200 yard Medley relay team of Diana Daniel, Stephanie Klegarth, Daniella Borrelli, and Hannah Lamphere as they defeated the Wells College team by over 20 seconds with a time of 2:04.15.

In the 1650 yard freestyle event, freshman Tricia Learn dominated the race winning by over two minutes with a time of 19:27.62. Learn also won the mixed 500 yard freestyle by over 20 seconds with a time of 5:41.81.

Borrelli returned in the 200 yard freestyle to take the victory by over 30 seconds with a time of 2:14.63. She also won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.04.

Abbe Tipton was the next winner for the Mountaineers as she won the 50 yard freestyle in 27.50 seconds. Tipton also won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.42.

Lamphere retuned after the victorious relay to win the mixed 200 yard IM with a time of 2:38.27 and Klegarth returned to win the mixed 100 yard breaststroke in 1:13.24.

Maureen Maikner dominated the field in the 100 yard butterfly winning with a time of 1:07.19.

With the individual events all in the bag for Mansfield, the women were faced with one final opportunity to take victories in every event on the day -- the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team of Abbe Tipton, Mary Tucker, Maureen Maikner, and Tricia Learn defeated Wells College by 14 seconds in a time of 1:54.87 to finalize their victorious efforts.

The Mounties are back in action Saturday February 4th when they travel to East Stroudsburg before moving on to the PSAC Championships February 16th through 18th at Clarion University.
