FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountaineer swimmers shine at ESU Invitational

EAST STROUDSBURG – Abbe Tipton and Stephanie Klegarth took first place finishes and Tricia Learn had an impressive second place finish during Saturday’s ESU last chance swim meet.

Tipton easily took first place in the day’s fourth event, the 100 yard backstroke. Her time of 1:02.22 was a second faster than her nearest competition.

Klegarth followed that up with her own win in event five, the 100 yard breaststroke. Klegarth was fourth tenths of a second slower than Katy May of C.W. Post on the first lap, but made up the difference in the second half of the race. Klegarth finished with a time of 1:10.44, 1.74 seconds faster than May.

Learn earned her second place finish in the 1650 freestyle, finishing with a time of 13:26.79. Learn finished between two East Stroudsburg swimmers who posted time of 13:18.24 and 13:29.59 respectively.

Other notables for Mansfield included the 200 yard medley relay team of Tipton, Klegarth, Learn and Daniella Borrelli, who took second in that event with a time of 1:58.08. The same four also finished third in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.82.

Also for Mansfield, Mary Tucker took third place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.87. Maureen Maikner took a third place as well in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.70.

In the 100 yard freestyle, Tipton and Learn finished seventh and eighth respectively out of 19 competitors with times of 58.94 and 59.45.

Next up for the Mountaineer swimmers is the PSAC Championship at Clarion University Feb. 16-18.
