FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: LASKOWSKIS WALK OFF HOME RUN
GIVES MOUNTIES SWEEP OVER WEST CHESTER
MANSFIELD Jaclyn Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid Valley)
blasted a walk off three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the
nightcap and Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) hit a three-run
homer in the opener to lift Mansfield University to a 7-3, 11-8 sweep over West
Chester in a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Thursday afternoon.
In the opener, Jes Ricker (Shillington/Governor
Mifflin) led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run and
Mansfield added two more runs in the third before Dean hit a three run home run
to give Mansfield a 7-0 lead.
Dean also got the win, allowing just three hits in five
innings with four strikeouts. Alison Tagliaferri came in relief striking out
three in two innings. Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island,FL/Merritt Island)
was three-for-three with two rbi while Jaclyn Laskowski went two-for-three.
In the nightcap, Mansfield built a 3-0 lead after the first
three innings on a two runs singe in the first by Nancy Quinn and a RBI double
in the third by Tagliaferri.
West Chester took the lead in the top of the fourth with four
runs, but the Mountaineers stormed right back with three runs of their own in
the bottom of the inning keyed by a two run home run by Jes Ricker.
West Chester would put the game into extra innings with two
runs in the top of the sixth and went up 8-6 with two more runs in the top of
the eighth.
Ricker doubled in one run in the bottom of the eighth for
Mansfield and the Mountaineer tied the game with another run before Laskowski
came up with two runners on and hit her eighth home run of the year to win the
game.
Heather Bensinger got the win in relief for Mansfield with
Ricker going three-for-five with a double, home run and three rbi. Nancy Quinn
was three-for-four.
Mansfield improves to 17-13 and 10-10 in the PSAC East. The
Mountaineers will host Shippensburg in their final regular season home game of
the season on Friday.
