SOFTBALL SPLITS AT WEST CHESTER – ALISON TAGLIAFERRI FANS NINE IN NIGHTCAP
WEST CHESTER – Alison
Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) struck out nine and Kriss Kelly and
Heather Long each hit home runs to lead Mansfield University to a 7-3 win over
West Chester in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
West Chester won the opener 5-2.
After surviving a shaky
first inning, Tagliaferri powered the ball past a career best nine batters
during 6.2 innings to pick up her
second win of the season.
Trailing 2-0, the
Mountaineers tied the score at 2-2 with two runs in the second inning and went
ahead for good when freshman Kriss Kelly (Nineveh,NY/Afton)
crushed a two run home run to left field. Heather Long (Pottsgrove/Pottstown)
added a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning.
Liz Lyon
(Harpursville/Windsor) got a
save, coming in to retire the final batter with two runners on. Freshman Sytiva
Seitz (Dallastown/Dallastown) was 2-3 with two doubles and an two RBI.
Taglaiferri also had a double.
In the opener, West Chester
scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break up a close 3-2 game. Jes
Ricker (Shillington/Governor Mifflin) doubled and Kriss Kelly had an RBI
for the Mountaineers. Freshman Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton)
went the distance in taking the loss.
Mansfield goes to 8-8
overall and 1-5 in the PSAC East.
