FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY AS JACKIE LASKOWSKI CONTINUES TO SURPASS THE SCHOOL RECORD FOR HOME RUNS

MANSFIELD- Jaclyn Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid Valley) hit her ninth home run of the season and Alison Tagliaferri added a two run home run for a 4-1 victory in the nightcap at a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field.  Mansfield dropped the opener 3-0.

In the nightcap,  Shippensburg took the lead in the top of the second inning.  Mansfield answered Shippensburg’s run with two runs when Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island, FL/Merritt Island) singled and Alison Tagliaferri blasted her fourth homerun of the season over the centerfield fence to give Mansfield a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Mountaineers added two insurance runs when Jackie Laskowski hit her ninth homerun of the season and later in the inning when Tagliaferri doubled in another run.

Freshman Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) went all the way for the Mountaineers for her seventh win of the season.  She scattered four hits while striking out two.

The Mountaineers improve their record to 18-14 overall and 11-11 in the conference.  Saturday April 26^th Mansfield travels to Kutztown for another important PSAC East match-up.
