FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES DROP DOUBLEHEADER AT
EAST STROUDSBURG – JACLYN LASKOWSKI SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD WITH SEVENTH HOME
RUN OF THE YEAR
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg scored two runs on just
three hits to win the opener and scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh
to capture the nightcap in beating Mansfield University a 2-0, 3-2 in PSAC East
softball Wednesday afternoon.
Mansfield’s Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore)
and ESU’s Monica Sobloesky hooked up in a pitching dual in the opener.
Tagliaferri allowed just three hits, but two were in the bottom of the third
leading to two runs. Tagliaferri struck out five while walking two. Sobloesky
held the Mountaineers to just one hit, a single by Jaclyn Laskowski
(Olyphant/Mid Valley) in the first inning. She struck out nine with no
walks.
In
the nightcap, the Mountaineer built a 2-0 lead behind Laskowski who broke the
season home run record with a solo shot in the fourth inning. It was
Laskowski’s seventh home run of the season, eclipsing the mark of six held by Deb
Gmys (1989) and Jen Barret (1990). Laskowski also drove in
Mansfield’s other run with a single in the fifth inning.
But East Stroudsburg would rally for three runs in the bottom
of the seventh, scoring the winning run on a play at the plate with two outs.
Freshman Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) went the first 6.1 innings
before being relieved by Liz Lyon. Dean struck out four while walking none.
Mansfield falls to 15-13 overall and 8-10 in the PSAC East.
The Mountaineers will host West Chester Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader at
Lutes Field. It also marks Senior Day with seniors Heather Bensinger and Jes
Ricker being honored in pregame ceremonies.
