  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: LADY MOUNTIES CONTINUE WINNING WAYS AND TAKE TWO FROM VIRGINIA STATE

  Petersburg, VA- GAME ONE: Liz Lyon (Harpursville, NY/Windsor) shuts out Virginia State to improve her record to 2-1 and record a win for the mountaineers.

  Lyon would need no help, going the distance and striking out 12.  Lyon would also help out her own cause by finishing the game with one RBI.  Battery mate Sytiva Seitz             (Dallastown/Dallastown) had a great game going 1-2, with 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases.

  Also helping out the winning effort was Nancy Quinn (Merritt Island, FL/Merritt Island) who finished the game with an RBI double.  Kriss Kelly (Nineveh, NY/Afton) added a 2 RBI double as well.

  With the win the mountaineers improved their record to 5-3 overall and 3-0 on the weekend

  GAME TWO: Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) recored her third victory of the season as the Mounties post their third shut out in two days.

  Dean would finish the game with 8 strike-outs, at one point during the fourth and fifth innings she struck out 5 straight batters. 

  From the plate the lady Mounties totaled 5 extra base hits. Shannon McDonnell (Scranton/Bishop O’Hara) led the way with a double and went 3-3 in the game.  Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) added and RBI double of her own, as did Jes Ricker (Shillington/Governor Mifflin) and Sarah Deller (Red Lion/Red Lion).  Marissa Kosydar (Dickson City/Mid Valley) led off the second inning with a triple and finished the game going 2-3 from the plate.  Kriss Kelly (Nineveh, NY/Afton) and Heather Long (Pottstown/Pottsgrove) added one RBI each.

  With the win the mountaineers improve their record to 6-3 overall and complete a 4 game sweep on the weekend.  The lady Mounties will be back in action at home on the 26 of March as they face Shippensburg University.  Game time is 2:30pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ALISON TAGLIAFERRI THROWS NO HITTER-LADY MOUNTIES TAKE TWO FROM VIRGINIA UNION

  Petersburg, VA: The lady Mountaineers cruise to 2 victories in Virginia against Virginia Union.

  Game One:  Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore) throws her first collegiate no hitter to collect her first win of the season.  Tagliaferri went the distance for the Mounties and struck out 13 in the game.  The game was called after the fifth inning due to the mercy rule. 

  Tagliaferri helped out her effort by leading the way from the plate, going 1-2 in the game with a two run homerun in the second inning, she finished with three RBI’s.

  Tagliaferri moves to 1-2 for the season and the mountaineers are now 4-3 on the season with this win.

  Game Two:  In her first collegiate start freshman Kristi Duncan (Wall, NJ/Wall) throws a three hitter to record the win. 

The Mounties four runs in the first inning would prove to be enough as Duncan went the distance. 

  From the plate the lady Mounties put up 6 hits, led by Jackie Laskowski (Olyphant/Mid Valley) who had a three run triple in the first and finished with five RBI’s on the day.  Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) also added and RBI double.

  Duncan posts her first win of the season (1-0) as the mountaineers move to 5-3 overall.

  The lady Mounties will be back in action tomorrow with a double header against Virginia State starting at 12 pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES WRAP UP FLORIDA TRIP WITH 8-0 LOSS TO WEST FLORIDA 

PENSACOLA, FL – The Mansfield University softball team wrapped up its Florida trip with a 3-3 record after dropping a 8-0 decision to the University of West Florida on Thursday night. 

Alison Tagliaferri started on the mound and took the loss. She struck out three and walked one over 3.2 innings before giving way to Liz Lyon. Lyon also doubled for Mansfield.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SOFTBAL SWEEPS IN FLORIDA – KRISS KELLY BLAST GRAND SLAM  

PENSACOLA,FL – Freshman Kriss Kelly (Nineveh,NY/Afton) blasted a grand slam in the opener and Heather Bensinger and Liz Lyon combined for a one-hitter in the nightcap as the Mansfield University softball team swept Eureka (IL) College 11-2, 3-1 at Pensacola, FL Wednesday afternoon.

In the opener, the Mountaineers pounded out thirteen  hits including a grand slam by Kriss Kelly (Nineveh,NY/Afton) in the top of the seventh. Kelly was 2-3 with a home run, double and six RBI. Heather Bensinger (Tamaqua/Tamaqua) was 3-4 with a pair of double. Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) went the distance to pick up her second win of the season. Dean scattered six hits while striking out two.

Heather Bensinger went the first three innings of the nightcap allowing just one hit while striking out two before being relieved by Liz Lyon (Harpursville,NY/Windsor) who picked up the win with four innings of no hit ball.

Mansfield scored the winning two runs in the bottom of the second inning when Mandy Boandl reached on an error and move to second on a sacrifice bunt by Bensinger. Ricker then doubled in Boandl and latter scored on an RBI single by Kelly.

The Mountaineers improve to 3-2 overall and wrap up their Florida swing when they play the University of West Florida on Thursday night.

The Mansfield University softball team split a pair of games in Pensacola, FL Tuesday afternoon. Mansfield won the oper 9-1 over Southern Virginia behind the pitching of Kristen Dean who picked up her first collegiate win.

Mansfield lost the second game, 4-1 to Northwood University.

Mansfield is now 1-2 on the season.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTE SOFTBALL EDGED OUT IN SEASON OPENER – DROP 5-4 DECISION TO WALSH UNIVERSITY IN PENSACOLA – SECOND GAME CALLED ON ACCOUNT OF RAIN

PENSACOLA,FL – Jes Ricker (Shillington/Governor Mifflin) went 3-4 with a double, but it would not be enough as the Mansfield University softball team dropped its season opener, 5-4, to Walsh University in Pensacola, FL Monday afternoon.

The nightcap was called because of rain with Mansfield leading 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning.

Mansfield was trailing 5-2 when Kristen Dean (Roaring Branch/Canton) belted a two run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull to 5-4.

Liz Lyon (Harpursville,NY/Windsor) took the loss and was relieved in the third inning by Alison Tagliaferri (Linden/Jersey Shore). Tagliaferri allowed one run and struck out four in four innings.

The Mountaineers will play Northwood University (MI) in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SOFTBALL SEASON OPENER CANCELLED BY ICE STORM – MOUNTIES TO OPEN 2003 IN PENSACOLA ON MONDAY

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University softball season opener, scheduled at North Carolina Central University on Saturday, has been cancelled by a ice storm that hit the area.

The Mountaineers will now open the 2003 at Pensacola, FL on Monday when they play Walsh University in a doubleheader.
