RELEASE DATE: 3/06/09 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Softball suffers first two losses of season against Davis & Elkins and USC-Aikens FLORENCE, SC – University of South Carolina-Akins got a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge Mansfield 2-1 in the Mountaineers second game at Francis Marion Tournament Friday afternoon. Mansfield dropped it first game in the tournament 6-3 to Davis & Elkins. Melissa Baer went the distance in the second game scattering seven hits and striking out two to suffer her first loss of the season. USC-Aiken scored a run in the bottom of the second before Mansfield tied the game on a solo home run by Nicole Yost in the top of the fourth. In their first game of the day, Kami Bishop lost her first game of the season after three straight wins in the loss to Davis & Elkins. Mansfield trailed 4-0 before Megan Trutt hit a solo home run for Mansfield in the top of the fourth. Mansfield will play three games on Saturday to round out the Southern Swing.
