Mansfield Softball signs four in early signing period

Mansfield, PA – Nov. 22, 2008

The Mansfield University softball program has announced that four high school players have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Mountaineers for the 2009-10 season. Chara Dixon (Shermans Dale, PA/West Perry), Jelaina Jones (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), Caitlin Klobosits (Coplay, PA/Whitehall), Kelley Pfleegor (Milton, PA/Milton) will attend Mansfield University in the fall of 2009.

“This is such a quality class for us,” head coach Edith Gallagher said.  “This recruiting class helps us add depth at each of these key positions.  These recruits have taken the time to get to know us and our school and will be able to make an immediate impact on our program."

The list of signees as well as comments on each recruit from Coach Gallagher are listed below.

Chara Dixon

Chara will be coming to Mansfield from West Perry High School in Elliotsburg, PA. Although she is primarily a catcher, Dixon is a well rounded athlete who will fit in anywhere in our program. She was a very decorated student athlete in her three years to date in high school. Chara received numerous awards such as MVP and captain of her team as well as being named to the Mid-Penn All Conference teams in 2007 & 2008.  She is a Distinguished Honor Roll student.

Jelaina Jones

Jelaina will be coming to Mansfield from Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, PA.  Jelaina is a very powerful athlete, who plays first base. She brings with her an extremely strong work ethic, attitude, and desire to make a difference in our program. She is a very versatile athlete who has experience playing infield and outfield. She has been named a tournament MVP 8 times.  Jelaina is a well rounded student-athlete as well, being a member of the Honor Roll.

Caitlin Klobosits

Cat comes to Mansfield from Whitehall High School, Pennsylvania. She's a left-handed pitcher who will likely see time as an outfielder when she's not in the circle because she's such a capable hitter as well.  She was named to the 2008 LVC Softball All-Star 1st team as a pitcher.  Cat is a well rounded student-athlete who is a high honor roll student and volunteers with Big Brother/Big Sisters and the American Heart Association.

Kelley Pfleegor

Kelley comes to Mansfield from Milton High School in Pennsylvania.  Kelley’s an extremely fast and aggressive player who will be a great asset to our program. Her speed puts pressure on the defense and we look forward to her success getting on base here at Mansfield. She has been named an All SLV 1st team outfielder for three consecutive seasons.  Kelley has played on five Milton LL softball teams that have won state titles and in 2006 Won the LL World Series Senior Division World Title.

The Mountaineers open the 2009 softball season on February 27th as they travel to Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina for the Catawba College Invitational.
