For Immediate Release- Softball splits with Millersville, records first PSAC win of the season

Millersville- Mansfield put up four runs in the third inning and hung on for a 7-5 win in game two of a doubleheader at Millersville Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers got a run in the first inning on a single by Jen Stein to drive in Shana Markwis but Millersville responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.  The Mountaineers retook the lead with four runs in the third.  Janelle Antes started the inning with a bunt single and moved to second when Megan Trutt reached on an error.  A walk to Jen Stein loaded the bases for Gab Carrullo who doubled to right center to score Antes, Trutt and Stein.  Jess Christ followed with a double of her own to score Carrullo.

The Mountaineers tacked on insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings.  Christ drove in Trutt in the fifth inning with an RBI single and Nicole Yost drove in Trutt in the seventh with an RBI single.

The insurance runs would be needed as Millersville scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 7-5.  Lindsay Knapp came on to pitch and got the final out for her first save of the season.

Trisha Johnson and Erin Hepner had three hits apiece for the Marauders while Christ had three hits for Mansfield and Yost had two hits while Trutt had two hits and scored three runs.  Whitney Brown picked up her third win of the season going four innings giving up eight hits and allowing just one earned run.

In the first game Mansfield was held to just two hits by Millersville pitcher Courtney Eckman.  The Mountaineers got on the board first when Carrullo scored when Amanda Lewis reached on an error.  That was all the runs Mansfield would get as Millersville picked up runs in the fourth and six innings to pull out the 2-1 win.

Casey Coker had two hits for Millersville while Trutt had the only other hit for Mansfield.

Michelle Forsburg started for Mansfield going four innings and giving up three hits and one run.  Knapped took the loss giving up two hits and one run.

The softball team travels to Bloomsburg on Tuesday to take on the Huskies in a doubleheader.
