RELEASE DATE: 4/14/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield splits softball doubleheader with West Chester – Mounties drop opener 5-1 and come back to win nightcap 3-2 MANSFIELD – Gab Carrullo drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the winning run and Lindsey Knapp threw four innings of no-hit ball in relief to lead Mansfield to a 3-2 win over West Chester in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader Monday afternoon at Helen Lutes Field. In the nightcap, West Chester scored one run in the first inning off Mansfield starter Melissa Baer before the Mountaineers rallied for two runs in the bottom of the second. Carrullo led off the inning with a walk and later scored on an RBI single by Katie McConville. Mansfield got its second run on an RBI single from Jen Messner. West Chester tied the score with a run and Baer got out of a bases-loaded jam on an inning ending strikeout. In the fifth, Janelle Antes singled to led off the inning and advanced to third on back-to-back singles by Jess Christ and Megan Trutt before Carrullo’s walk. Baer went three innings allow two runs and striking out three. Knapp picked up her third win of the season throwing no-hit ball over the final four innings. Nicole Yost had two hits for Mansfield. In the opener, the game was scoreless until West Chester scored three unearned runs in the third inning. Mansfield scored a run in the fourth when Nicole Yost hit a single through the left side of the infield to score Carrullo. West Chester tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning and went onto win 5-1 Ashley Saussaman picked up the win allowing one run while Shannon Padula earned the save. Shana Markwis had two hits for the Mountaineers. Mansfield will now play Kutztown on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Helen Lutes field.
