 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  Mounties Drop Pair at Kutztown

 MANSFIELD -- The Mountaineers struggled on the road at Kutztown on Friday afternoon dropping a pair of contests by scores of 9-1 in the first game and 4-3 in an extra inning nightcap.

Senior Christine Ross took the mound in the first game and held the Golden Bears to just two runs in the first inning until the wheels fell off in the fifth. Kutztown rallied to score five runs in the fifth to pull away and secure the win.

Jess Christ continued her impressive offensive production with a 3-for-3 performance in game one. She had the lone Mountie RBI when she scored Whitney Brown in the third inning.

Things looked positive for the Mountaineers at the start of the second game as Mansfield picked up one run in the second inning and to more in the third to take a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning.

Kutztown rallied to score one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3. Lindsay Knapp started on the mound for Mansfield and was relieved by Shelly Forsburg in the fifth inning.

The game was forced to extra innings after a scoreless seventh. The Mountaineers could not capitalize in the top of the eighth before Kutztown brought in the winning run with one out in the bottom of the eighth.

Shana Markwis went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run while Jen Stein recorded two RBI. Whitney Brown was 1-for-3 with the other Mountie RBI.

With the loss, Mansfield drops to 4-19 overall and 1-7 in the PSAC East while Kutztown improves to 29-13 overall and 11-1 in the East.

The Mountaineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Millersville University for a PSAC East doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
