RELEASE DATE: 4/20/07 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Drop Pair at #22 Bloomsburg MANSFIELD -- The Mountaineers continued to struggle, dropping a pair of games 8-0 and 4-1 on the road against the # 22 ranked Bloomsburg Huskies in PSAC East softball action on Friday afternoon. The slumping Mounties managed just one run of offense on the day and mustered a combined total of six hits after being no-hit in the first game. Game one was called after five innings by the run rule as Bloomsburg pitcher Ashley Lynn threw a no-hitter while the Huskies added eight runs of support. Lynn struck out 10-of-16 batters she faced in the contest. Shelly Forsburg was credited with the loss after throwing four innings allowing 4 hits and two earned runs. Bloomsburg scored one run in the bottom of the first inning in game two but the Mountaineers would return the favor in the second inning when Jen Stein belted a solo homerun to tie the score at 1-1. The Huskies would add three more runs in the next two innings before Lindsay Knapp settled in and shut them out in the final three innings. Unfortunately the Mountie bats could not garner enough run support for Knapp who was credited with the loss after allowing four earned runs on eight hits in six innings of work. With the losses, the Mountaineers fall to a dismal 4-23 overall and 1-11 in the PSAC East while Bloomsburg improves to 23-8 overall and 9-5 in the East. Mansfield is back in action tomorrow afternoon (Saturday) when the Athletics department and the Joel Stephens Tournament team up to raise money for the W.L. Miller Elementary School after the recent fire. The Mounties will square off against East Stroudsburg at 12:00.
