FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SOFTBALL SWEEPS ST. AUGUSTINE’S 17-0, 12-2 TO IMPROVE TO 11-1 ON SEASON

RALEIGH, NC – Christine Ross threw a three-hit shutout in the opener and Kristen Dean improved her record to 6-0 in the nightcap to lead Mansfield to a 17-0, 12-2 sweep over St. Augustine’s Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, NC.

Ross picked up her first win of the season scattering three hits while striking out seven in the complete game victory. The Mountaineers gave her strong offensive support pounding out 18 hits including four triples.

Kris Kelly went 4-5 with two triples and three RBI and Shana Markwis was 2-4 with a triple and five RBI.

In the nightcap, senior Kristen Dean picked up her sixth straight win with a complete game five-hitter. She struck out three while issuing just one walk. Jessica Christ, Jen Probst and Stacy Dean were all 2-3 in the game and Shana Markwis belted a grand slam.

The Mountaineers travel to the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament next weekend.
