FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Drop Pain At Millersville to Open the PSAC East Season

MILLERSVILLE – Millersville pounded out 25 hits on their way to a 5-1, 9-4 sweep of Mansfield Saturday afternoon in the Mountaineers PSAC East opener.

Mansfield, which had a conference best .377 team batting averaging coming into the doubleheader, managed just two hits off winner Jessica Vonada in the opener. Jen Probst took the loss giving up nine hits and striking out six while walking just one.

In the nightcap, Mansfield took a 2-0 lead on an RBI double by Tricia Bailey in the second and Millersville throwing error in the third. Millersville got two runs of Mountaineer starter Kristen Dean to tie the game in the fourth and two more in the fifth before chasing Dean from the mound with a five run sixth inning. It was just the second loss in 10 decisions this season for Dean.

Alexa Ashwell went 4-4 with two RBI to lead Millersville while Jessica Christ was 2-4 with a double and Stacey Dean 2-3 for Mansfield. Sytiva Seitz hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh for the Mountaineers.

Mansfield falls to 0-2 in the PSAC and 14-5 overall. The Mountaineer will host East Stroudsburg in their home opener this Wednesday.
