FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: East Stroudsburg Spoils Mounties Home Opener – Jen Probst and Whitney Brown Go Yard for Mounties

MANSFIELD – Jen Probst and Whitney Brown each homered in the nightcap but East Stroudsburg rallied for a 18-10 win in sweeping Mansfield in a PSAC East doubleheader at Helen Lutes Field Thursday afternoon.

Christine Wontroba held the Mountaineers held the Mountaineers to one hit in the opener while striking out six.

In the nightcap, the Mountaineers scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run double by Jes Christ and two-run homer by Jen Probst.

Mansfield increased the lead to 5-1 on a Christ’s sac fly. But East Stroudsburg scored 11 runs over the next two innings before putting the game out of reach with a six run seventh inning.

Probst went 2-4 with three home runs while Kris Kelly was 2-3. Shana Markwis doubled and drove in two runs. Jennifer Veronesi and Kerri Jakobsen each hit home runs for East Stroudsburg.

Mansfield fall to 14-7 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC East.

The Mountaineers travel to nationally ranked Bloomsburg on Friday and Shippensburg on Saturday.
