FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Stun Bloomsburg 2-0 in Opener – Kristen Dean Throws Complete Game Shutout

BLOOMSBURG – Kristen Dean scattered six hits and stuck out eight batters in throwing a complete game 2-0 shutout over nationally ranked Bloomsburg in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Jan Hutchinson Field Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies returned the favor with a 4-0 shutout in the nightcap.

In the opener, Dean had one of the best performances in her impressive career in shutting out the Huskies for the first time in school history. The senior had pin-point control all afternoon allow no walks in recording her ninth win of the season.

Mansfield scored the only run it would need on a RBI single by Jes Christ in the first inning before adding an insurance run on a solo home run by Shana Markwis in the fifth.

In the nightcap, Bloomsburg freshman Tara Reed allowed just one-hit, a single by Jen Probst in the second, in the 4-0 win. Jen Probst pitched effectively for Mansfield scattering five hits and striking out eight with no walks.

Mansfield is now 15-8 on the season and 1-5 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers travel to Shippensburg for a makeup doubleheader on Wednesday.
