RELEASE DATE: 3/30/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEPT BY #6 RANKED SHIPPENSBURG SHIPPENSBURG – The Mansfield University softball team opened the PSAC East season by suffering 6-0, 7-0 setbacks to Shippensburg at Ross Field Wednesday afternoon. Shippensburg, ranked #6 in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II softball poll, broke a scoreless tie in the opener with one run in the third inning before adding three more in the fourth and two in the sixth. Alexis Drebitko went 2-3 to lead the Mountaineers offense in the opener while Jackie Laskowski added a double. Alison Tagliaferri took the loss allowing seven hits over four innings while striking out thee. Kelley Tiasi recoded the win for Shippensburg scattering five hits and striking out 12. In the nightcap, Shippensburg’s Danielle Shields threw a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts. Kris Kelly walked for the only Mountaineer base runner. Amy Martino took the loss allowing eight hits and striking out two over 4.2 innings. Shippensburg got nine of their 12 hits in the third and sixth innings. The Mountaineers will travel to East Stroudsburg on Thursday before hosting West Chester in their home opener on Friday. GAME ONE
