FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEEP IN SOFTBALL SEASON OPENER – BLANK CONCORD AND COLUMBIA UNION

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Kristen Dean and Alison Tagliaferri combined to throw a no-hitter in the opener and Amy Martino allowed just one hit and struck out seven in four innings in the nightcap as Mansfield University opened the 2005 softball season with a 5-0 win over Concord (WV) and 9-0 shutout against Columbia Union (MD) at Myrtle Beach, SC Monday morning.

In the opener, Dean struck out five and issued two walks over the first four innings before Tagliaferri came in relief and threw three perfect innings with five strikeouts.

In the nightcap, freshman Stacey Dean went 2-2 with a home run, double and four RBI’s while Amy Martino allowed just one hit and struck out seven. Christine Ross stuck out all three batters she faced relief.
