FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE SOFTBALL SPLITS AT MYRTLE BEACH

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Kris Kelly stole home in the bottom of the sixth to score the winning run as Mansfield beat Bloomfield College (NJ) 2-1 in softball action at Myrtle Beach, SC Tuesday afternoon.

Mansfield lost it first game of the season earlier in the day dropping a 3-2 decision at Belmont Abbey.

Mansfield managed just four hits, scoring on a wild pitch and Kelly’s stolen base. Kristen Dean went the first five innings striking out eight with no walks. She was relieved by Alison Tagliaferri, who picked up the win, in the sixth inning. Tagliaferri threw two perfect innings with three strikeouts.

Sytiva Seitz lead off the Belmont Abbey game with a home run for Mansfield before Belmont Abbey scored twice in the bottom of the inning. Mansfield would tie the score on a RBI double by Tagliaferri in the third, but Belmont’s Leigh Carter hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth for the winning run. Mansfield out hit Belmont 9-7 but stranded 11 runners.

Amy Martino started the game for Mansfield, striking out seven over 4.1 innings. She was relieved by Dean who struck out three in 1.2 innings of work.

Mansfield will play the University of Charleston and Montreat College on Wednesday
