FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES HOLD OFF ESU 12-11 IN OPENER – GAME TWO ENDS IN 3-3 TIE BY DARKNESS

EAST STROUDSBURG – Nancy Quinn went 4-4 with four RBI’s to lead Mansfield to a 12-11 win over East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East contest at Zimbar Field Thursday afternoon. The nighcap was halted after the fifth inning in a 3-3 tie.

Trailing 4-0, the Mountaineers rallied with eight runs in the top of the third inning in the opener. Heather Long doubled to start the third and then hit another two run double later in the inning. Kris Kelly also had a two-run double in the inning.

Mansfield added one run in the sixth and three in the seventh to take a 12-6 lead. East Stroudsburg would rally with five runs and had the tying run on third base with no outs before Alison Tagliaferri got a strikeout and the next batter popped up to the catcher. Sytiva Seitz ran down a line drive in center field to end the game.

In the nightcap, Kris Kelly blasted two doubles and a home run. With the light fading, Mansfield broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the fifth when Kelly doubled in Alexis Drebitko. East Stroudsburg tied the game with two singles and a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning before it was halted by the umpire.

Alison Tagliaferri went the distance scattering seven hits and striking out five.

The game will remain a tie, unless there are playoff implications later in the season.

The Mountaineers, who have played their first 18 games on the road are scheduled to host West Chester Friday at 2 p.m. at Helen Lutes Field.
