FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE MEN IMPROVE TO 12-2 WITH 87-55 WIN OVER SLIPPERY ROCK – OMARI TOPS FOUR IN DOUBLE FIGURES WITH 18 POINTS

MANSFIELD – Omari Pearson led four Mountaineer players in double figures with 18 points as Mansfield University defeated Slippery Rock University 87-55 in a PSAC crossover contest Saturday afternoon in Decker Gymnasium.

The Mountaineers never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 18-8 lead nine minutes into the contest on a 3-pointer by Bill McNeil, who scored eight of his 10 points in the first half.

Mansfield would lead by as many as 14 points midway through the half before Slippery Rock rallied to cut the margin to 34-29 at intermission.

The Mountaineers, who shot just 36% from the field in the first half, came out running and hot in the second half hitting 65% of their attempts from the field. Mansfield went on a 24-10 run over the first seven minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach on a dunk by Pearson with 12:11 to play.

Brett Longpre’ scored 17 point for Mansfield with Brandon DeShields adding 13 points and seven assists.All but one player on the Mountaineers roster scored points in the game.

Jason Taylor led Slippery Rock (3-11) with a game high 23 points.

The Mountaineers face their biggest game of the non-conference season when they host California University of PA Sunday in Decker Gymnasium at 3 p.m.
