Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC – Yuseff Carr topped five Mountaineers in double-figures to lead Mansfield to a 81-66 end-of-the-year win over the University of the District of Columbia Tuesday afternoon.

Mansfield trailed by as many as six points early in the game before taking the lead for good at 15-13 on a 3-ponter by Justin Simons seven minutes into the game. The Mountaineers went on a 11-0 run moments later behind a pair of 3-pointers by Chris Pender and another by Donny Lyons to expend their lead to 26-15.

Another Pender 3-pointer gave Mansfield a 42-21 advantage with just over five minutes remaining in the first half before UDC closed to 46-35 at halftime.

Although Mansfield did much of its damage from long-range in the first half connecting on 7-of-9 treys over the first 20 minutes, the Mountaineers where just as effective inside with Carr scoring 14 of his team-high 17 points in the first half.

UDC did manage to pull to 51-45 six minutes into the second half but Tony Fannick stop that rally and started one for the Mountaineers with a 3-pointer and Mansfield held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game.

Mansfield held a 32-22 rebounding advantage and shot 55% from the floor for the game.

In addition to his 17 points, Carr pulled down nine rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked two shots. Fannick scored 14 points while Pender and Anthony Derrison each added 14 points with Pender hitting 3-of-4 3-pointers, dishing out five assists and pulling down seven rebounds. Simmons was the fifth Mountaineer in double figures with 11 points.

Dyrek Jones led UDC (1-11) with a game-high 21 points with Tim Ellison adding 16 points.

Mansfield, which has beaten UDC twice this season, improves to 6-3. Mansfield will host Edinboro this Saturday and Lock Haven Sunday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.
