MANSFIELD – Mallory Moore topped four Mountaineer players in double figures with a game-high 16 points but Mercyhurst held off a late-game rally to hold on for a 69-63 win over Mansfield in a PSAC women’s crossover contest Monday evening in Decker Gym.

Mercyhurst (2-3) jumped out to a 23-12 in the first 10 minutes of the game and extended its lead to 40-26 at halftime.

Mansfield would cut the lead to 42-36 five minutes into the second half on a layup by Meredith Hafer. But a 19-8 Mercyhurst run put the Lakers up 61-44 with 8:21 to play.

Mansfield chipped away over the next five minutes with a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 63-58 on a Tegan Atallah 3-pointer with 3:28 t0 play. The Mountaineers would close to 65-61 seconds later on another Atallah 3-pointer but could pull no closer.

Mercyhurst held a 41-29 rebounding advantage but Mansfield turned the ball over a season low 13 times to keep within striking distance.

Moore connected on 7-9 from the floor and also pulled down five rebounds in addition to her 16 points. Mallory Hafer and Nicole Pender each scored 13 points while Meredith Hafer added 11 points. Pender also dished out a career-best nine assists.

Amy Achesinski paced five Mercyhurst players in double figures with 13 points.

Mansfield will host the Comfort Inn Classic this Friday and Saturday.
