FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Tony Fannick named PSAC East Freshman of the Week
MANSFIELD – Mansfield University first-year standout Tony Fannick (Milton/Milton) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Freshman of the Week for his outstanding performance in three games during the week ending 1/11/09.
Fannick earned his second PSAC East Freshman of the Week award of the year after averaging 15.0 points and 6.3 rebounds in Mansfield's 2-1 week. He started the week with a season-high 21-point, eight-rebound performance that also featured four assists and an 11-for-13 showing from the free throw line in Mansfield's win over District of Columbia.
He had just four points and two assists but also committed only one turnover in the Mountaineers' win over Clarion on Saturday but then bounced back with his first career double-double with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds in his first career start as Mansfield lost to #7 Gannon.
For the season Fannick is averaging 9.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. He is second on the team in assists (29) and ranks among the top free throw shooters in the conference hitting 85% of his attempts.
