FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountie men battle Binghamton tough before falling at Division I Binghamton

BINGHAMTON – Ryan Callahan scored 17 points and Yuseff Carr added 16 as a gritty Mansfield team fell to NCAA Division I Binghamton 80-62 at the Events Center at Binghamton University.

“We played with a lot of effort,” said head coach Rich Miller. “They are a good program with a lot of very good Division I athletes but I think we showed for the most part we could play with them.”

The game was played before an announced crowd of 3,461, including a bus load of Mansfield students. 

Mansfield held a 7-4 lead after the first four minutes on a pair of free throws by Yuseff Carr, a 3-pointer from and Lavail Owens and Cory Boone layup.

Binghamton tie the score at 12-12 before Dhimitri Luarasi's layup off an assist from Ryan Callahan gave Mansfield an 14-12 lead with 11:34 remaining in the first half.

But Mansfield went cold from the field as Binghamton built a 35-24 halftime lead.

But the Mountaineers refused to fold and shot 41.4% from the floor in the second half after a cold 28.6% in the first half.

Carr played a strong game underneath pulling down seven rebounds and blocking a shot in addition to his 16 points. Cory Boone came close to a double-double with 10 points and eight rebounds.

D.J. Rivera, a junior transfer from St. Joseph, scored a game-high 28 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Binghamton.  Emanuel Mayben added 16 points.
