FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: IUP outlasts Mounties 75-68 at Indiana Regional Medical Center Holiday Classic

MANSFIELD – Yuseff Carr recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds but IUP outscored Mansfield 12-6 over the final three minutes of the game to hold on for a 75-68 win at the Indiana Regional Medical Center Holiday Classic Wednesday night at Memorial Fieldhouse.

Mansfield led early in the game holding a 19-11 lead on a jumper by Tony Fannick 12 minutes into the first half but IUP went on a 22-11 run over the final eight minutes of the half to take a 33-30 halftime lead.

The Mountaineers struggled to get untracked in the second half and trailed 47-35 on a jumper by IUP’s Darryl Webb with just over 11 minutes to play and trailed 59-48 with a little over eight minutes remaining in the game.

Carr, who was held to just four first half points, scored 11 points over a five minute span and cut the lead to 63-62 on a  layup with 3:19 remaining.

Mansfield missed its next three shots and Slippery Rock hit eight of 10 free throws to hold on to the win.

Fannick kept Mansfield in the game in the first half scoring all 16 of his points in the first half. Ryan Callahan added 11 points.

IUP won the game on the foul line hitting 18 of 27 attempts to Mansfield 4 for 10. Darryl Webb led five IUP (6-2) players in double figures with 16 points.

The loss snaps a three game win streak for the Mountaineers who travel to UDC this Saturday.
