MANSFIELD – Chris Greene scored seven of his game-high 22 points in the final thirty-five seconds of the game including two free throws with 3.5 seconds remaining to lift Mansfield to a 73-72 win over Shippensburg in a PSAC crossover contest Wednesday night at Decker Gymnasium.

“Chris (Greene) was just clutch down the stretch,” said head coach Rich Miller. “He really stepped up and hitting those two free throws at the end really took a lot of heart.”

Shippensburg led the entire second half, twice by as many as eight points, until a layup by Greene with 13 second to play.

The game looked over for the Mountaineers when Ryan Kraft hit a 3-pointer to give Shippensburg a 68-63 lead with 1:35 to play before John Hampton got Mansfield back into the game with a 3-pointer at the one minute mark.

“John’s 3-pointer was big,” said Miller. “It really gave us energy and put belief back into everyone that we could win this game.”

Mansfield trailed 70-66 when Greene hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining to close to 70-69. Shippensburg missed two free throws and Greene drove the length of the court to hit a lay up to give Mansfield a 71-70 lead with 13 second remaining.

Shippensburg retook the lead on a layup by Ryan Kraft five seconds later before Greene again drove the length of the court and was foul while driving the lane.

Shippensburg tried a full court pass but lost the ball as the game ended.

Greene led Mansfield with 22 points while Brandon Lawley had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Ryan Kraft led Shippensburg (5-6) with 22 points.

Mansfield improves to 8-1 on the season and will host Bowie State on Friday night at 7 p.m.
