FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: West Chester Stages Second Half Rally to Down Mansfield 74-65 – Terrance Williams Scores Career Best 22 Points in Loss

WEST CHESTER – Terrance Williams scored a career high 22 points but it would be enough to stop a furious second half rally as West Chester came back from a nine-point halftime deficit to beat Mansfield 74-65 in a PSAC East contest at Hollinger Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon.

In a tale of two completely different halves, the Mountaineers shot a blistering 60% (6-10) from beyond the 3-point line in the first half. Mansfield led by as much as 23-10 on a Chris Greene 3-pointer with just under eight minutes to play in the first half before settling for  37-28 halftime lead. Greene scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half while hitting all three of his 3-point attempts. West Chester on the other hand managed to hit just 1-10 of its 3-pointers over the first 20 minutes.

But West Chester regrouped after intermission taking advantage of its inside game to out rebound Mansfield 23-13 in the second have. Forced to shoot almost exclusively from long distance, the Mountaineers managed to hit on just 1-11 3-pointers in the second half and were unable to contain Aaron Willaims and Donnell Butler who combined for 38 points and 21 rebounds underneath for West Chester.

Mansfield still managed to hold on for much of the second half before two Butler free throws gave West Chester a 50-48 lead with just over eight minutes to go. West Chester went on a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 60-50 lead and held a 64-54 advantage with 3:56 to play before Mansfield went on a 9-2 run to close the gap to 66-63 on a jumper by Greene with 1:18 remaining.

West Chester would ice the game from the free throw line connecting on 5-of-6 free throws over the final minute.

The 28 rebounds tied the lowest on the season for the Mountaineers who hit on 10-14 free throws compared to West Chester’s 22-30 from the charity stripe.

Williams was 9-14 from the floor including 2-3 on 3-point attempts in scoring 22 points. Greene added 18 points and four assists while John Hampton scored 11 points.

Aaron Williams recorded a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds to lead West Chester (2-2 PSAC, 10-7) with Shawn Werdt scoring 20 points and Donnell Butler 16.

Mansfield travels to East Stroudsburg on Monday.
