FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountie Men Fall to Millersville in PSAC East Opener – Hampton Records Collegiate Double-Double

MANSFIELD – John Hampton recorded his first collegiate double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds but it would be enough to overcome a 30-point effort by Greg Testa as Millersville beat Mansfield 85-70 in the PSAC East opener for both teams at Decker Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Although they never led in the game, the young Mountaineers managed to keep the score close for much of the first half, trailing 29-24 on a three-point play by Chris Greene with just over five minutes to go in the half. But Millersville went on a 14-7 run to take a 43-31 lead into intermission.

The Mountaineers managed to cut the lead to 68-59 midway through the second half but could no closer.

Millersville shot a sizzling 53.2% from the floor to Mansfield’s 42.6% and the Mountaineer turned the ball over 21 times.

In addition to Hampton, Chris Greene scored 17 points and dished out eight assists while Terrance Williams and Brandon Lawley each scored 13 points.

Reggie Bates added 15 points for Millersville with Charlie Parker scoring 14 points and dishing out eight assists with five steals.

Mansfield falls to 2-10 overall while Millersville extended its winning streak to 13 straight games in improving to 13-1.

The Mountaineers will host a pair of PSAC crossover games this weekend, hosting Edinboro on Saturday and Slippery Rock on Sunday.
