RELEASE DATE: 11/18/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mountie Men Can’t Overcome Cold First Half in 86-70 Opening Season Loss at Lemoyne – John Hampton Scores 21 Points Syracuse, NY – Despite a 21 point effort by John Hampton, the Mansfield University men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a cold shooting first half in falling to Lemoyne 86-70 at Grant Court Saturday afternoon. The Mountaineers were ice cold from the field in the opening 15 minutes, especially on 3-pointers going 2-15 over that span. Mansfield trailed 20-13 with 7:49 left in the first half but Lemoyne broke the game open with a 15-2 run over the next four minutes. The Mountaineers trailed 41-26 at halftime and by as much as 27 points in the second half before mounting a furious rally to pull to 78-68 on a jumper by Brandon Webb with just under two minutes to play. A junior guard, Hampton scored a team high 21 points before fouling out in the second half. Kevin Hill (Mansfield/Mansfield) had a career best 14 points with eight rebounds and three steals while senior Terrance Williams added 10 points. Mansfield shot just 31% from the floor during the game and took 33 three-pointers hitting eight of them. Jason Holmes scored a game high 26 points and recorded seven steals for Lemoyne with Matt Cooper scoring 23 points. Mansfield travel to Messiah College on Tuesday.
