FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Drop Preseason Exhibition at Division I Binghamton

BINGHAMTON, NY -- Mansfield led for the first 15 minutes before succumbing to Division I Binghamton on Tuesday night, falling 79-64 in the first exhibition game of the season.

The Mountaineers came out strong taking the lead just under 3:00 minutes into the game and building that lead to as much as 9 points. The Bearcats took the lead with just under 4:00 to play in the first half after closing on a 14-0 run to send the game into halftime at 39-36 in favor of Binghamton.

Mansfield would start the second half cold as the Bearcats would build their lead behind a 14-5 run start the half. The Mounties would not recover, eventually falling 79-64.

The Mountaineers were led by newcomer Jovoun Webb who had a game-high 19 points while shooting an impressive 8-of-11 from the floor with two 3-pointers. Returning guard John Hampton scored 10 points while Kevin Hill added eight. Terrance Williams and Chris Greene each added seven points.

"It was a good experience for us," said head coach Rich Miller. "We're a young team, and to have an opportunity to lead an experienced Division I program in our first time on the floor is a bright spot."

Binghamton was led by Troy Hailey who chipped in 15 points while Jaam Montgomery added 11 and Marvin Lee contributed 10.

The Mountaineers shot 39.3% from the floor while the Bearcats were 35.9% from the field. Binghamton held the rebounding advantage at 50-31.

2,672 people attended the game.

Mansfield will face another Division I opponent this Saturday when they travel to Bucknell to face the Bison in an exhibition game. Tip off is scheduled for 7:00pm at Bucknell.
